This policy is written for a small independent app. It is not legal advice; worth a professional review before serious scale.
Who we are
Neba is a homework help app operated by an independent developer. Contact: hello@askneba.com.
What we collect and why
Photos and questions you submit. When you scan or type a question, it is sent securely to our server and forwarded to Google's Gemini API to generate the answer. We do not build a library of your photos on our servers; images pass through to produce your answer.
An anonymous account. The app creates an anonymous identity automatically (no name, email, or signup). It exists so your daily free-scan allowance works. We store a random user ID and a daily count of scans.
Your history. Questions, answers, and photos in your History are stored on your device only. Deleting an item or clearing history removes them. Deleting the app removes everything.
Feedback. If you rate an answer 👍/👎, we save the rating (tied only to your anonymous ID) to see how we're doing. If you rate an answer 👎, we also keep that question and answer so we can find and fix weak spots. We never store your photo. The text itself is whatever was in your question and answer, so treat a downvote as sending us that text.
What we do NOT do
- No selling of data. No ads. No tracking across other apps or websites.
- No human reads your questions, except the ones you flag with 👎, which we review to find and fix mistakes.
- No account required, ever; no email, name, or contacts collected.
Third parties
- Google Gemini API processes question content to generate answers, under Google's API terms (paid tier: data is not used to train Google's models).
- Supabase hosts our server functions and the anonymous account system. Like any web host, their infrastructure logs requests, which can include your IP address. We do not store IP addresses ourselves; the rate limit that uses one keeps it in memory only and never writes it down.
- Apple processes any subscription purchases; we never see your payment details.
Data retention
Scan counts reset daily and are kept only as operational records. Anonymous accounts persist so your allowance works across days. Downvoted question and answer text is kept until the problem it points to is fixed; write to hello@askneba.com to have yours deleted sooner.
Younger users
Neba is a general-audience homework app, and school-age students use it. There is no signup at any age. The app never asks for a name, email, phone number, or contacts, we never store your photos, there are no ads, no third-party analytics, and no tracking across other apps or websites.
Two things deserve to be spelled out, because "anonymous" does not mean "nothing":
- The anonymous ID is persistent. It has to be, so your daily free-scan allowance survives closing the app. It is not tied to your name or email, but it does single out one install over time.
- Downvoted answers are stored as text. If you rate an answer 👎, we keep that question and answer against your anonymous ID so we can find the mistake. An answer to a photo question normally restates the problem, so the wording of what you scanned can reach us this way even though the image never does. If a question contains something personal, don't downvote it, and nothing about it leaves your device.
If you are a parent or guardian and want a child's stored feedback removed, write to hello@askneba.com and we will delete it.
